Gas prices on the rise again 

Gas prices are rising again, especially for diesel, according to this week’s data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. 

Regular gas is up to $4.001 per gallon the week of July 20, 2026, up 14.6 cents from the prior week and up 88 cents from a year ago. 

Diesel prices rose even more from $4.796 per gallon a week ago to $5.124 the week of July 20, up 33.8 cents and $1.322 higher than a year ago. 

The national average price for regular gasoline crossed the $4-per-gallon and diesel the $5-per-gallon mark after a few weeks of lower prices. 

Regular gas prices jumped in every region of the country. The East Coast recorded a 15.9-cent bump to $3.924 per gallon, while Gulf Coast prices rose 16.5 cents to $3.588. On the West Coast, motorists continue to pay the nation’s highest prices, with the regional average climbing to $4.983 per gallon. 

Analysts attribute the rise to higher crude oil prices and tightening fuel supplies, as well as escalating tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns that prices could remain high if supply disruptions continue.
