U.S. Foods BB #134354 is evaluating the acquisition of rival Performance Food Group BB #137847.

Bloomberg reported the news late last week, which caused PFG’s stock price to jump. Representatives from both companies declined to respond to Bloomberg for the story.

The potential merger of the second and third largest broadline distributors would create a company with annual revenue above $100 billion, easily eclipsing the size of Sysco, the largest distributor.

The deal would likely raise antitrust concerns. About a decade ago, Sysco attempted to acquire U.S. Foods, but the deal was blocked by the Federal Trade Commission, and Sysco abandoned the plan after an early ruling against it by a federal judge.
