Some say the agriculture industry is behind the times—slow to adopt technology or keep pace with digital trends. Honestly, they’re not wrong.

This industry was built on relationships, trust, and tradition. So it’s easy to see why social media might feel out of place.

It’s been around for over 20 years now, yet plenty of companies still haven’t made their mark—or even dipped a toe in.

For some, it’s just another box to check. Something handed off to a junior employee or posted “when we get around to it.” But for others who’ve leaned in, social media has become a serious edge. A way to stay relevant, connected, and visible in a fast-moving world.

The truth probably lives somewhere in between.

No, likes and follows don’t pay the bills. But social media plays a real role in shaping company culture, building trust, and keeping your brand top of mind. In today’s market, being silent online can actually work against you.

Whether you’re a grower, distributor, retailer, or operator, the way we communicate is evolving fast. Platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and even TikTok are helping companies tell stories, show their work, and connect with new audiences. And the ones doing it consistently? They’re seeing results.

It’s not about being on every platform, it’s about picking the ones that match your voice and showing up with purpose.

Storytelling Over Selling

People remember stories. That’s why you find them on restaurant walls and product packaging. Behind-the-scenes content—like early harvests, team shoutouts, or just a muddy field—resonates more than a polished flyer ever will. I remember the first time I posted a raw packing photo—it wasn’t perfect, but the comments showed people noticed. That’s what makes it work.

LinkedIn Builds Credibility

It’s not the flashiest, but LinkedIn is becoming the place for B2B. Sharing program updates, celebrating your team, or posting a quick thought on a trend—these build trust. A solid company page, supported by engaged employees, shows you’re active, forward-thinking, and human.

Be Real

People know when something’s staged. The best posts aren’t perfect—they’re honest. Ditch the stock photos. Use your own words. Even a quick field update with a phone pic beats a branded post that feels disconnected. In a world full of AI-generated noise, being human is your edge.

The Hard Part?

Time. Consistency. Figuring out what to say. A lot of teams get stuck here. Always remember that if you’re not telling your story, someone else might. Or no one will at all.

Social media gives everyone from small family farms to startup brands a voice, and when used well, that voice can open doors.

So… is it a necessary evil?

Maybe. But it’s also one of the most powerful tools to amplify your story, grow your reach, and remind the world that you’re still here—and still building something that matters.
