Markon Cooperative BB #:123315 released this avocado update October 26, 2026:

Reports indicate interruptions to avocado harvesting in isolated growing regions of Mexico, with production reportedly suspended in certain areas. The immediate concern is reduced volume moving into export channels.

If the dispute continues, U.S. receivers could face tightening availability, disrupted shipping schedules, and higher prices.

The severity will depend on how broadly the work stoppage spreads and how quickly negotiations progress. Markon will continue to update as more information becomes available.

Supply

  • Mexico shipped approximately 53.5 million pounds during the seven-day period of October 14–20, a 16% increase over the prior year
  • California shipments were under one million pounds, while Peru shipped approximately 750,000 pounds as both regions approach the end of their seasons
  • Total U.S. avocado shipments are up 6% year over year

Availability

  • Current inventory and fruit already in transit will provide near-term supply coverage
  • A short-lived harvesting interruption may have limited market impact
  • A prolonged or broader disruption would tighten availability as the U.S. market becomes increasingly dependent on Mexican supplies

Pricing

  • Prices will rise if harvesting interruptions persist or expand into additional growing regions
  • A quick resolution could allow market conditions to normalize before a significant supply or pricing impact develops
