Diesel prices jump 20 cents from last week, near all-time high

U.S. diesel prices rose 19.8 cents per gallon from last week to $5.652, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration August 25, 2026 report.

Diesel prices are $1.944 higher than a year ago and $2.001 more than two years ago. They also are at the highest point of the year, topping the April 6 high of $5.643, about a month into the Iran war.

Regular gasoline prices rose 3.6 cents per gallon from a week ago to $4.085 nationwide.

By region on diesel, California rose the most at 25.5 cents per gallon over a week ago to $7.040. The Gulf Coast rose the next most with a 24.4 cents per gallon increase.

Fuel prices jumped dramatically since the start of the Iran war and disruptions to trade through the Gulf of Hormuz.

Prices started a gradual decline from early April to early July, but since then, they’ve steadily risen to this yearly high.

The all-time diesel price record was set in June 2022 at $5.81 cents per gallon.
