Tomato update: Round availability remains at critically low level

Prices are elevated. Tomato supplies remain extremely tight. Florida growers are transitioning between districts, limiting production. Recent freezing temperatures in Mexico are keeping availability critically low.

Rounds

Florida

• Ruskin/Palmetto suppliers are starting production very slowly; harvesting days are sporadic at this point in the season

Mexico

• Freezing temperatures have impacted production
• Crossings have been very limited the past two weeks
• Round availability is essentially nonexistent
• Jalisco growers will start harvesting rounds on May 1; the Baja season will begin late next week
• Expect extremely low volume through mid-May

Romas

Florida

• The Immokalee season is winding down
• First picks are limited
• Most growers will start second and third picks next week
• Supplies are very snug as yields have fallen and the crop is transitioning north

Mexico

• Crossings into the US have fallen; quality is fair at best
• Jalisco growers will start harvesting Romas next week
• The Baja season is getting underway in a limited manner
• Freeze impacts are expected to keep markets elevated through May (potentially into June)

Grape and Cherry

Florida

• Supplies are slowly increasing
• Markets are trending lower will ease into May

Mexico

• Baja volume is rising as this region was not impacted by recent cold weather

• Rounds remain critically short, driven by a Florida district transition and extremely limited Mexico crossings
• Markets remain elevated; meaningful availability is not expected until mid-May (potentially into June)
• Maintain order flexibility and rotate product quickly
