Company Press Release
Schmieding Produce, LLC (a subsidiary of Woerner Food & Ag Group, LLC) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Florida-based watermelon distributor Nature’s Choice Produce. Nature’s Choice has supplied top quality watermelons to chain stores and distributors across the United States and Canada for more than 30 years.
“I am extremely pleased to be joining the Schmieding Produce team and look forward to being able to help my growers and customers expand their watermelon business with a top-notch organization like Schmieding,” said Nature’s Choice owner Doug Dickerson.
“The purchase of Nature’s Choice helps Schmieding to accomplish our goal of expanding our watermelon grower and distribution channels and helps Schmieding to continue to deliver high quality produce from field to fork.” stated David Mayhue, Managing Director of Watermelon Sales at H.C. Schmieding.
“Nature’s Choice has a great reputation for delivering quality product from a great grower base for many years. This acquisition helps Schmieding to continue to execute on our plans to expand our operations across North America,” said Lester Woerner, Chairman of Woerner Holdings.
Schmieding Produce is one of the largest shippers of watermelons in North America with a network of growers spanning most of the major production areas. The Company also is a large supplier of potatoes, carrots, pumpkins, and other fruits and vegetables to chain stores, major processors, and terminal markets across the United States.
Woerner Holdings, L.P. has a broad range of investments in farmland and agriculture. Woerner acquired Schmieding Produce in April, 2015 and sees this acquisition as another key strategic move in furthering its investment in the fresh produce market.
Lester Woerner added, “We continue to look for good opportunities to acquire assets that expand our ability to serve our customers and growers in the produce industry.”
