Peruvian onion exports increased 29% in March 2024

Peruvian onion exports totaled 4,118 tons in March 2024, which was 28.9 percent higher than what was reported in the same month of 2023, as reported by Agraria.

The distribution of exports in the month showed a concentration in five main markets. The U.S. absorbed 37.2 percent of the total exported, with 1,530 tons. Spain maintained a participation of 31.4 percent, with 1,293 tons. The Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Costa Rica completed the list of the main importers, with 19.4 percent, 2.8 percent, and 2.7 percent, respectively.
The yellow variety predominated in exports, with 2,325 tons that constitute 56.5 percent of the total, followed by the red onion with 726 tons (17.6 percent) and the Ryan variety with 231 tons (5.6 percent).
The companies that led the shipments were Mentor Agro Productos S.A.C., with a share of 14.7 percent. They were followed by Agroexportaciones Dyciel E.I.R.L. (9.9 percent), Solsur Trading S.A.C. (7.1 percent), CEC Import Export Trading S.A.C. (6.6 percent), and Shuman Produce Perú S.A.C. (5.9 percent).
