Peruvian avocado export value may grow 30%

The volume of Peruvian avocado exports rose sharply this year, but even more gains were found with export value.

According to Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, president of the consulting firm Informa@ccion, Peruvian avocado exports are estimated to increase 20 percent in 2021, reaching 490,000 tons, compared to the 409,422 tons shipped in 2020, as reported by Agraria.

He said that by the end of 2021, Peruvian avocado shipments would be close to $1 billion, reflecting a growth of 30 percent when compared to the $756 million reached the previous year.

In the first half of 2021, avocado exports reached 317,357 tons reflecting an increase of 21 percent when compared to the 261,948 tons shipped in the first half of 2020.

Cilloniz explained that the avocado shipments from January to June of this year were as follows: January 4,000 tons; February 11,400 tons; March 36,740 tons; April 67,410 tons; May 87,807 tons; and June 110,000 tons.

While in the first semester of 2020 it shipments were as follows: January 2,295 tons; February 7,382 tons; March 22,855 tons; April 46,681 tons; May 89,390 tons; and June 93,345 tons.
