PARIS—I stopped by four very different formats of Carrefour, one of the largest supermarket chains in the world.

While I went pretty far out of the city center to find one, I saw an even bigger one on the way to the airport when I left. Next time! Store 1 was in a fancier part of Paris. Store 2 was in more of a working class neighborhood. Store 3 was near my hotel, an express store. Store 4 was larger version of an urban small format and was open 24 hours.
