Mexican blueberry exports increased 57 percent year-over-year from January to April 2021 reaching sales of $313.5 million, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
These exports had been showing an increasing trajectory, reaching $289 million in 2018, $291 million in 2019, and $352 million in 2020, as reported by Opportimes.
Each year, the seasonal U.S. blueberry production begins with the Florida harvest, with supplies peaking April through early May.
The USDA reported that Florida made it first shipments in week 10 this year. California produces blueberries year-round, with larger supplies from May to July.
According to the North American blueberry Council BB #:162393, the estimated total U.S. blueberry harvest in 2020 was 627 million pounds less than the previous year, with 340.8 million pounds for the fresh market and 286.3 million pounds for the processing market.
