DURHAM, NC, May 18, 2026 — Happy Dirt BB #:205636, a farmer-owned organic produce distributor based in North Carolina, today announced the launch of a retail-ready 4-pack tray of organic bicolor sweet corn.

The new format will be available starting the week of June 8, 2026, alongside the company’s bulk organic sweet corn offering. Harvest begins June 5 in Eastern North Carolina.

The 4-pack tray holds four ears of USDA Organic bicolor sweet corn in an overwrapped retail tray. This new item allows retailers to continue to drive organic sales in their stores and have the peace of mind that they are getting rung up correctly at the register.

The new pack is enabled by Happy Dirt’s recent investment in a repack machine, which broadens the range of packaging formats the company can offer its retail customers.

“We’ve heard from buyers that they want a packaged organic sweet corn option that fits cleanly into their stores,” said Pat Bayor, Vice President of Sales and Purchasing at Happy Dirt. “The 4-pack tray was built around that feedback. It’s a format that works for shoppers, works for retailers, and lets us bring our growers’ corn to more customers along the East Coast.”

Built on Years of Work in the Field

Organic sweet corn is one of the more challenging crops in the organic vegetable category. Without conventional inputs, growers have to manage pests, weeds, and weather using a more hands-on approach, and even a strong field can be set back quickly. Producing organic sweet corn at retail scale, with the quality and consistency that grocery partners need week after week, takes years of experience and a deep understanding of the land.

That groundwork has been laid by Happy Dirt’s North Carolina farmer-partners, including farmer-owner Herbie Cottle. Through season after season of trial, refinement, and reinvestment, growers like Herbie have developed the practices that allow Happy Dirt to bring a dependable organic sweet corn program to market each summer and to keep expanding it.

Program Overview

Happy Dirt’s organic sweet corn season runs from the first week of June through mid-August. The program starts in Eastern North Carolina in June and moves to Western North Carolina in July, giving buyers an extended window of locally grown supply through the heart of summer.

The company ships organic sweet corn in truckload quantities to retailers throughout the East Coast, from Florida to the Northeast. Happy Dirt has been adding growers to the program and increasing acreage to keep pace with retailer demand.

Merchandising Support for Retail Partners

Happy Dirt is providing retail customers with a set of merchandising materials to support the launch and the broader season, including:

  • In-store signage for the produce department
  • A recipe card featuring an organic sweet corn salad
  • QR codes that link shoppers to information about Happy Dirt’s farms and farmer-owners

These materials give retailers a way to tell the story of where the corn is grown and who grows it directly at the point of purchase.
