There’s no denying the tremendous volume that comes through the markets from grower-shippers throughout California, as well as Mexico, Central America, and Canada. As a hub of population and culture, Los Angeles is a natural landing point to serve the region’s growing Hispanic and Asian populations and the dining trends they inspire.

“We have to celebrate flavor in addition to shipability,” declares Overdorf. “For all its challenges and changes, the LAWPM is an incredible resource for the national produce industry.”

“The nearby Arts District has a vibrant culinary scene,” says Krouse. “I believe millennials, who are driving many of the changes, are demanding higher quality and are willing to pay for it. I feel as though I’m in the front row of dynamic growth and change in the area.”

Adds Thakker, “The Los Angeles market still has great potential for growth. Los Angeles is the eastern capital of the Pacific Rim and ideally positioned to handle product from the West’s key growing regions.”

“In the next few years we’ll see new residents and more visitors,” Thakker says. “With the Rams [football team] coming back and the possibility of the Olympics in 2024, there will be many more opportunities to sell produce.” All of which equals a continued formula for success.
