Dates are one of the trendiest fruits out there. Just ask Whole Foods.
But me and dates? Not a match made in heaven. I’ve been to date orchards. I’ve sampled all manner of date-themed snacks and recipes, and for some reason I just couldn’t find the flavor combo that worked for me.
I recognize all of the new date products have a bright future. They’re just not in my regular assortment of snacks.
Natural Delights’ BB #:163391 new Date Strips with Tajin, however. Yes. This is my flavor profile.
Back story: I’ve lived in Texas for nearly half my life. I moved here in 2002, and quickly adapted to the Texas flavor profile, which skews heavily toward chile with a hint of lime.
The first time I tried a mangonada (mango chunks, mango sorbet, chamoy and a chamoy straw), I was in love. Jicama and Tajin are staples in our snacking. My kids squeeze limes and salt into zip-top bags of cucumber slices.
My son Uli – who shares my love of chamoy straws for every occasion – and I tried them for a TikTok video and declared them the healthy version of another favorite snack: chamoy gummy bears from Bucee’s.
So, there you have it. There’s finally a date that I like.
