According to information from the Chilean Blueberry Committee (ASOEX), exports decreased during week 5 reaching 5,996 tons, marking the end of Chile’s peak weeks.
ASOEX’s latest crop report, prepared by IQonsulting, and reported by Simfruit, shows that exports in week 5 were higher when compared to the same week last season, and the total export volume of 104,724 tons is 4.9 percent higher than in the 2019/2020 campaign.
The main destinations were North America with 51 percent of the volume exported, Europe with 31 percent, and Far East with 11 percent.
The decrease in volume during week 5 happened in the south-central zone, mainly in the Maule region due to rains in week 4. While the southern zone is contributing the highest export volumes, it’s showing a decreasing trend.
Organic blueberries also passed their peak. At week 5 there were 1,465 tons exported, totaling 17,706 tons for the season, reflecting an increase of 25 percent when compared to the same time last year.
ASOEX reports 77 percent of these shipments were destined for North America, while 23 percent went to Europe.
