Your Trading Partners Are Already Checking Your Ratings. Do You Know What They See?
Blue Book Credit Score & Ratings Guide
Every day, produce companies use Blue Book to evaluate trading partners before extending credit, sourcing product, or signing new deals. If you’re listed, your ratings are shaping decisions about your business right now. If you’re not, that absence is telling its own story.
Fresh Food Moves Fast. Bad Trading Partners Move Faster.
Produce is one of the only industries where you regularly extend five- and six-figure credit to companies you may have never met — on products that start losing value the moment they’re harvested. A late payment on a steel order is a cash flow problem. A late payment on a truckload of strawberries is a total loss.
That’s why the industry built Blue Book over 125 years ago. Not as a generic credit bureau, but as a shared system of trust — so that every company in the fresh food supply chain can know who they’re trading with before the truck leaves the dock.
The six ratings below are the core of that system. They exist because in produce, the cost of a bad trading partner isn’t just financial — it’s perishable.
Six Ratings. Six Ways Your Business Is Being Evaluated.
Blue Book doesn’t reduce your company to a single number. Our analysts and algorithms generate six distinct ratings — each measuring a different dimension of your creditworthiness and trading reliability.
The Companies That Trade With You Are Making Decisions Based on This Data.
Your Blue Book ratings aren’t sitting in a vacuum. They’re being pulled up by real people making real trading decisions — every day.
Before Extending Credit
A distributor pulls your Blue Book profile before deciding whether to offer net-21 terms or demand payment up front. Your Pay Rating and Credit Score are the first things they check.
Before Sourcing From You
A retail buyer checks your Trade Practices and Pay Reliability scores before adding you to their approved vendor list. A weak rating can take you out of the running before you ever get a call.
Before Signing a Deal
A new trading partner looks at your Credit Score and PACA history before agreeing to a first shipment. They’re deciding whether you’re worth the risk — and your ratings are the evidence.
Your Ratings Aren’t Random. Here’s What Moves Them.
Blue Book ratings are built from real trading data, financial reporting, and analyst review — not self-reported surveys or generic bureau data. Here’s what actually goes into your scores.
Trade Partner Payment Reports
When your trading partners report to Blue Book, they’re telling us how you pay, how fast you pay, and whether there were disputes. This data feeds directly into your Pay Rating, Pay Reliability Score, and Trade Satisfaction Score. More reports from more partners means a more complete picture — and generally a more favorable one if you’re paying on time.
Financial Data Submissions
Companies that submit financial statements to Blue Book give our analysts the data they need to assign stronger, more complete ratings. Without financial data, your Analyst Rating and Credit Score are working with an incomplete picture. Submitting current financials is one of the single highest-leverage things you can do.
PACA Dispute History
Active or historical PACA disputes show up on your profile and factor into credit assessments as a significant risk signal. Clean PACA history strengthens your profile. Unresolved disputes weaken it materially.
Analyst Review
Blue Book’s team of industry analysts reviews financial and trade data to assign the Analyst Rating and Trade Practices Rating. These aren’t algorithmic-only — they reflect human judgment from people who understand how the fresh food supply chain actually works.
Consistency Over Time
A single strong quarter doesn’t move ratings the way sustained performance does. The Trade Satisfaction Score and Pay Reliability Score both pull from a rolling six-month window. The Credit Score updates regularly but reflects patterns, not one-off payments. Steady, reliable behavior is what builds a strong profile.
