Markon Cooperative BB #:123315 released this avocado market update November 2, 2026:
The avocado market remains unsettled as harvesting in Michoacán remains suspended and pricing negotiations persist. Most Michoacán packinghouses are closed today in observance of Día de los Muertos, while operations in Jalisco continue.
Some Michoacán packinghouses are offering growers pricing comparable to Jalisco to restart harvesting; however, there is no official confirmation that growers will resume operations. Markon will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
Supply
- Harvesting remains suspended in Michoacán, while Jalisco continues to harvest
- Most Michoacán packing houses are closed today, November 2, for Día de los Muertos
- Some packing houses are hopeful harvesting could resume Tuesday, November 3, but no agreement has been confirmed
- Availability will remain extremely limited while harvesting in Michoacán is suspended
- Orders will continue to be reviewed daily based on available inventory
- Once harvesting resumes, inventories will require time to recover as fruit moves through harvesting, packing, transportation, ripening, and distribution channels
Pricing
- Pricing remains the primary point of disagreement between growers and packing houses
- Some Michoacán packing houses are offering growers prices comparable to those currently paid in Jalisco in an effort to restart harvesting
- Current grower pricing is expected to remain in place for an undetermined period
- U.S. FOB markets will need to reset to reflect current grower pricing and evolving market conditions
- A resumption of harvesting will not mean a return to pre-stoppage FOB pricing
Markon Recommendation
- Expect market volatility until harvesting activity in Michoacán stabilizes
- Review upcoming avocado needs closely as availability remains constrained
- Maintain flexibility as supply and pricing conditions continue to develop
