As the first shipments of blueberries are already leaving the country to non-traditional markets such as Israel and Indonesia, the Argentinean Blueberry Committee says growers are promoting its top attributes: tasty, sustainable, and responsible.
The shipments are the first to include some measures, such as the removal of withholding taxes for growers, that give growers the ability to be more competitive with other southern hemisphere exporters, which have grown exponentially in the last few years.
The Argentine Blueberry Committee estimates that for the 2021 season the average production level of 17.5 million kilos from recent years will be maintained.
Of those 17.5 million, an estimated 9 million will be exported as fresh fruit, 3.5 million are headed to the domestic market, and frozen will account for the remaining 5 million.
Organic continues to follow the growing trend, as in 2020, production reached 35 percent of the total.
The export season usually runs through March.
